I've seen these headbands here and there for a few months. I just think they're just adorable. I saw a super cute one on Etsy the other day and came really close to buying it. Thankfully, the light bulb went off before I hit the "purchase" button. Why don't I try and make one? So after a bit of searching, I combined some various instructions and made one of my own. I really like it, too!
Start off with some material that has a bit of stretch to it. I stole this from my sister's supply of fabric. Find something in your own stock of fabric, check out your local fabric store's clearance section, or just grab an old T-shirt for yours!
Cut two pieces from the fabric that measure 5x21 inches. (less if you're making it for a child!)
Fold each piece in half lengthwise
Sew along the length of each piece. I used I zig-zag stitch as it allows the fabric to stretch a little more. (Don't sew the ends together!) When I make another one, I'll probably make the stitch a bit smaller than that above.
Turn each piece inside out so that you have two "tubes"
Lay the pieces out so that they criss-cross
Fold the bottom layer up and over and then repeat with the other
It'll look like this when you pick it up!
Stuff the left end into the right end for each piece, just enough that you will catch both ends when you sew them together.
Stack the two pieces on top of each other and then sew. It'll be 8 layers of fabric you're sewing through in this step.
THE END!
Now it's time to wear it...
or make another one...
